How to Strengthen Teeth!
Here are 14 tips to help you strengthen your teeth!

  1. Improve your nutritional intake. Your body can strengthen weak enamel itself if given the necessary nutrients and minerals. Dark leafy vegetables, dairy, and protein-rich foods contain necessary nutrients. Sea salt (not processed table salt) is a good source for trace minerals like potassium needed for strengthening your teeth.

  2. Add re-mineralizing treatments to your oral hygiene routine. Gels with calcium phosphate have been scientifically proven to help re-mineralize tooth enamel.

  3. Chew sugar-free gum. The gum promotes saliva production without the sugar that makes weakened enamel worse. Gum with the natural sweetener xylitol doesn’t feed the bacteria that weaken your enamel, and xylitol has actually been shown to strengthen tooth enamel.

  4. Watch your diet. Sugary, starchy and acidic foods feed the Streptococcus mutants and Lactobacillus bacteria that cause tooth decay. Note that even sugar-free soda can be highly acidic.

  5. Limit the frequency of snacks so you don’t feed the bacteria as often.

  6. End your meals with cheese when you can. The cheese can reduce the acidity in your mouth that reduces the weakening of enamel.

  7. Rinse your mouth with plain water immediately after consuming acidic or sugary foods and beverages.

  8. Drink acidic beverages, like lemonade, with a straw. This reduces the exposure of your teeth to the acid in the beverage.

  9. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to brush your teeth gently. Rough brushing can actually damage your tooth enamel.

  10. Consider your health. Some health conditions make it difficult to strengthen your tooth enamel. Work with your dentist to get any such conditions under control. Chronic dry mouth is caused by reduced saliva production. Antihistamines, medication, and even wine reduce saliva production. Components in saliva actually maintain and repair your enamel, so chronic dry mouth can be damaging to tooth enamel.

  11. Acid reflux causes stomach acid to travel up your esophagus and even into your mouth. That acid burns away tooth enamel, so make sure any acid reflux condition is under control whether through diet or medication.

  12. Clenching or grinding your teeth also wears away your enamel. Anger, stress, and certain sleep conditions can cause this.

  13. Diabetes, mouth cancer, and other conditions can all make it difficult to strengthen your enamel.

  14. Check your toothpaste. Glycerin, an ingredient some toothpaste have, can interfere with strengthening your teeth. Glycerin layers your tooth in a sticky film that keeps the minerals in your saliva from interacting with your enamel to strengthen it.
